BUDDY CONTINUES HIS STORY:
I do believe Dad knew about the things I saw that day, but would never admit it to anyone. I mean, HE built the garden and the pond, and planted all the pretty things, or so he told everyone. I didn't see it of course. I was not around when it was first designed and built.
But, the story goes like this.
I was out on the Manor grounds, taking a nice afternoon stroll through a part of the place I had never seen before. It was nice, but getting a little spooky in some places, so I tried to stay sorta out in the open like. No sense in going where there's no path to walk on, ya know?

But spooky or not, it was real pretty. I saw some little creatures fluttering around in the bushes, and kinda hiding out, but not really. It was like they were welcoming me to their world. And leading me somewhere. Strange!
They were everywhere I looked, even in some of the places that didn't look too friendly at all. Well, they knew best what was safe and what not, but I was happy they stayed on the path.
I soon had the path marked for me by the little folk of the forest. I just followed the line they made in the grass. A little bit further along the trail, things began to look much safer and friendlier to me. I even thought I heard singing, and laughter. It was the little folk themselves. I could see other shapes and figures in the woods, some just a momentary shadow, some .... Suddenly I was there.
I had stepped out into a large glade, almost like a park. It was beautiful, and there were sounds of music and laughter, birds were singing everywhere. For some reason, I don't know why, I just didn't care to chase birds. I was happy to listen to them sing. It was beautiful there.
There were Faerie folk just about every place I looked. There was one boy fishing, a girl was gathering flowers and berries, and one was about to take a swim in the most delicious looking pool of water full of flowers and plants. I had a drink or two right there. I also discovered a family of frogs lived there too.
Everywhere I looked, things were changing, like the place was trying to make the view nicer with each glance a cat made. Things seem to grow right before my eyes. I was getting nervous again.
Then, there on the edge of the pool I saw them! They were as plain as the whiskers on my nose. Paw Prints!

Now, being a cat of more than average courage, I decided to take a closer look at these strange paw prints. They were real, and they were large -- VERY large. That's when I decided it was time to make a more detailed inspection if I was to remain in the area much longer. I looked around and around and I saw movement in the bush behind where I was standing. This did NOT look like one of the Fae Folk at all. It was not a clear image, it did not threaten me, but it raised my hackles, made my tail get bushy big time, and I hissed and growled in spite of myself, my pleasant nature and all that good kitty stuff.
It was then that I decided it was time to leave this place, beautiful or not. Things were just not what they seemed when I first entered the Fae Forest.
Just as I was beginning to back away from the pond where I had, just a few minutes before, taken a drink of delicious cool water, met a friendly family of frogs, and watched the Faerie Boy fishing, and the Faerie Girl collecting berries and flowers. I saw IT!
IT was huge, and IT was the last straw for me. I made my mind up right there it was time to make a hasty retreat from the Faerie Forest.
