Gizmo Was His Name
Chocolate brown and white, a soft wavy coat
A tail like a plume, held high and proud.
Eyes golden as the sun, ears that seemed to float
as he ran. A beautiful head that seldom bowed.
He came to us on Christmas day.
When the car drove away , it left him there
He didn't know he had come to stay.
And he sat and grieved, by the garden stair.
At last he accepted us, and became our own.
He shared our home and heart.
But he always remembered the love he had known
From another soul when his life has it's start.
He lived with us then for twelve long years,
through joy or sorrow, that came our way
He gave us his love and soothed our fears.
He aged with grace, and held time at bay.
Then ears became deaf his eyes began to dim...
He lost his way, didn't know his home.
He didn't know who called to him.....
He went outside, began to roam.
We couldn't stop his endless pain
Now, was the time to pass that ridge.
We knew our loss would be his gain.
He waits for us at Rainbow Bridge
